Nike dropped a well deserved commemoration this morning, in honor of the great Roger Federer. The Nike Zoom Vapor RF “287″ was limited to 287 pairs and priced at $287 US dollars as well. It has a similar look to the “Elite” basketball series released earlier this year. NikeStore.com released the shoe at 7am Eastern Time via @twitter and it was sold out 20 minutes later, kudos to Roger on his career and to those who copped such a limited release. SneakerMisfit @genetikmusic tweeted “Dope shoe, a legend as RF deserves such a release”, I would have to agree with the man. Happy Hunting!!

I try to stay away from the term “Hype Beast” for the most part, finding most regular users of it as shallow as the group they mock. But on Saturday July 14 the “Hype” reared its ugly head. A classic shoe was re-released and left sitting on the shelves and online while consumers chased other more marketed models. The Nike Pillar was ahead of its time and in my opinion is one of those rare models where current technology and materials help make it more dynamic, even better than the original! I did not personally purchase the shoe but was provided a picture by my nephew @Icecoldcvsh (Thanks). It has nostalgia, comfort and quality; can anyone explain to me why it did not receive a proper reception at the register? (cue crickets) I am NOT judging all of this “Hype” it’s what allows me to get great sneakers under msrp. Thank you “Hype” my pockets appreciate you!! Happy Hunting!!!!

Xavier McDaniel nicknamed “X-Man” was an enforcer…think Kendrick Perkins with the ability to light you up for 30 points and stop your best option any given night! The look and feel of his signature shoe created by Spot-Bilt matched this intimidation. The man who choked Wes Matthews (See Above) went nose to nose with MJ and punched it out with Charles Oakley, also had one of the hottest sneakers of the 80’s. Most people remember him with the Knicks as he gained national exposure by battling the Bulls; and notoriously punking Scottie Pippen, however he was drafted by Seattle with the #4 pick in 1985. Teaming up with Tom Chambers and Eddie Johnson, he finished second to Patrick Ewing for NBA Rookie of the year. Most of basketball teams on the east coast including DC area wore these or Converse Weapons as team shoes that year, I was captivated by them on sight. The hard plating around the ankle (Support System Technology) and back details are still pleasant on the eyes in my opinion. My older brother had a black pair and I gazed at them for about a week, as they did not make them in my size. I for one would be all for a re-release (crazy color-ways of course) of this shoe, as long as the integrity is not ruined like so many others are now. I have included a few links below for younger people who have no idea who I’m talking about and for the older Cats like myself who want to look back at the shoe or the ball player!! !! If you have any good tales about these let me know?

I wore this shoe in Elementary School, yes I still remember. What stood out to me were the suede accents, quality leather and Italian flag near the ankle area. I am still drawn to fine details on sneakers and tees, placement is so important to me. I was often asked “What is that?” as Primarily Nike, Adidas and Converse were worn at the time. Eventually it became trendy to own a pair in the Washington Metropolitan Area. By then I was…on to the next one!! Maybe it’s time for a comeback in the United States for the Italian Futbol brand. All this praise makes me want to hunt a vintage pair down online, at the right price of cour$e. Have any of you out there ever owned a pair of Diadoras? My curiosity wants to know…

I was around 7 when I nagged my mom for a pair of baby blue Adidas shell toes, which I planned to put fat laces in. Settled for navy blue and got my fat laces in right away. I felt like I could run and break dance better (didn’t we all). My next memory is when I fell in love. It was 1986 and my mother, bless her soul took me on my first shoe hunt. We were in search of the Patrick Ewing “Conductors”. We went all over the mall searching and asking everyone for my size, being in the DC area it was difficult. This was Pat Ewing who just left John Thompson and the Georgetown Hoyas. The whole city was buzzing & buying!! I didn’t find the Ewing’s that day and ended up with a pair of “Forums”, but the whole experience obviously wasn’t unforgettable. We didn’t have a lot of money growing up so I valued them and took good care of them, since then it has been one hell of a ride. From there it was all Nike (Dunks,Delta Force,AF1,Air-Max,ACG). My birthday is Feb. 6th perfect for Jordan release dates growing up. I owned every pair of J’s first edition through number 16. My generation was ridiculed and laughed at for spending so much on “sneakers”, mocked for being different. Classmates laughed at my “Concords” when I wore them to school, calling them “church shoes”. I got the last laugh as they most likely wait in line to purchase them every December for more money (ha ha). My shoes were always too bright, too strange and/or expensive. I was known for my mean shoe game and good or bad, they talked about my shoe of the moment. Nowadays my motives have changed. I’m not all about new releases and special editions so much anymore. I prefer playing scavenger hunt and seeking out hidden gems well under the MSRP, try it! Over the next month or so I will be sharing more personal experiences and many of my favorite sneakers owned over the past 25 plus years…Hope you enjoy them, feel free to share along with me!!!! #OG HAPPY HUNTING!!
