Using the adidas miCoach Elite System, every team in the league will track performance data in real-time. A small data cell will sit within a protective pocket of fabric in the player’s base layer, a technologically advanced term for undershirt. The data cell will reside between the players shoulder blades but it’s the sensors woven into the base layer that will track and wirelessly transmit 200 readings per second to coaches and trainers.  The real-time performance metrics include heart rate, speed, acceleration, distance, field position and, for the first time, power, all at the coach’s fingertips in the form of an iPad.

The first “smart game” will be the aforementioned 2012 All-Star Game but beginning with the 2013 season, every team in the league will use the adidas miCoach Elite System.

“Our long-standing partnership with adidas and our combined goal to bring innovative and game-changing experiences to the sport of soccer are key reasons behind the success of Major League Soccer,” said MLS Commissioner Don Garber.  “Working with adidas, we are bringing players, coaches and fans across the league a revolutionary technology to help teams perform at the highest level.”

“On-field data tracking is one of the most important elements coaches and trainers use to prepare their teams,” said Paul Gaudio, vice president of adidas interactive.  “Teams are constantly looking for a competitive edge and the micoach Elite System is a real-time performance monitoring solution for the best teams in the world.” Gaudio continued, “With years of research, innovation and development behind it, the micoach Elite System allows coaches and trainers to make informed strategic decisions to maintain collective peak physical performance on the field.”

The development of the micoach Elite System began in 2010 in conjunction with some of the MLS teams. At first, data will be available only to coaches and trainers but plans are to allow aspects of the transmitted performance measurements to be viewed by fans. In essence, you’ll be able to see your favorite player’s “power meter” as if you were playing a video game from your couch at home.

If that’s not scary cool, I don’t know what is. The thing that I’m looking forward to seeing the most, as this technology progresses through various sports, is the moments when a player is “in the zone.”

Will this technology lead to proving something bigger like “mind over matter” or, you know, isomorphic algorithms.

This is the beginning of something really cool and I’ll surely be watching to see how it all works on Wednesday when the All-Star Game takes place. I just hope Jeff Bridges is announcing the game so we get the full effect.

After riding in the Tesla coupe a few months back, the news of the Model S sedan has been something I’ve been eagerly anticipating to for quite some time. I recently stopped in at the newly opened Tesla showroom for the Model S on the 3rd Street Promenade in Santa Monica, California, and snapped some pictures.

The price point of the car, around $50k, makes it competitive with any sports sedan on the market, and the power, comfort and quiet ride will likely be above and beyond anything else available. My frequent trips from Los Angeles to San Francisco are about the only thing that would keep the Tesla Model S Sedan from fitting in my current lifestyle but who knows, by the time they are readily available and in full production mode, what dreams may come.

The ASICS GEL BLUR33 2.0 Limited Edition was released as part of the Flag Collection (which is available at local Foot Locker stores). This pack came with a pair of the USA inspired GEL BLUR33 2.0, along with a matching t-shirt and hoodie. As you can see from the pics, the shoes are already on my feet but one of my favorite elements of this package is the cards for all of the ASICS sponsored athletes. Lolo Jones, Ryan Hall, Sharon Day, Julie Culley, Kara Patterson, Amy Acuff, Jordan Burroughs and the women’s field hockey team are included. Each card spotlights the athlete’s accomplishments, Olympic event(s), a way to connect with them through social media and their favorite ASICS shoe.

It’s great to see ASICS remembering the importance of the athlete and giving them some shine.

I picked up this single speed/fixed gear brand new for $108. It’s a good start and at that cost isn’t something I will have to stress over while riding it around Santa Monica and the beach cities. It came with a flip-flop hub, which is cool should I want to switch from fixed to free wheel. I peeled the stickers off the first night I got it and can’t even remember the name of the brand, Made in China Speed, most likely.

Pretty simple and straightforward but definitely cheap and worry free. Keeping with the cheap theme, I threw on some Bell lights to keep me from getting run over at night (hopefully) and of course started to add some stickers of my own, starting with Lurk Hard and 4fifteen. Just need to get some eyeprojekt stickers now!

I’m thinking of switching up the paint already but haven’t decided on a color. The green makes me think of skittles and is a little loud for me. Maybe flat black like everything else in my life haha…

The 3M detailing on the shoes is one of my favorite details. The two-color makeup stands out quite a bit on its own. It when you see the 3M liven up, it’s money. These are low-key in a lot of ways. I’ve worn them to sneaker events and had nobody notice them but the people that do, know their stuff.
