Aside from Chuck Taylors, I usually wear a different pair of sneakers every day. Alternating helps them last longer and frankly, I just feel better wearing a different pair, especially considering over half my life, I never had the option. Every once in a while however, I pick up a shoe that I just have to wear over and over again. I can’t really explain it, unless it’s a colorway like the New Balance 1500 x Crooked Tongues, which of course is a favorite for many reasons.
Normally, I would say that I avoid designs with leather toeboxes, especially on running shoes. They crease up and get ugly quite quickly compared to their mesh-toed siblings. Recently however, I picked up a pair of adidas ZX 8000s that are made up of really nice quality black leather and they have become one of my go-to choices for the last few weeks. I’ve always like the ZX 8000, it’s comfortable, a little techie, and just has countless color blocking options that make it easy to find a colorway I like. Ironically, this colorway is pretty much all black, which is another thing I usually steer clear of.
Seems sometimes breaking free of the stereotypes is uncontrollable, even when it’s me that is making the stereotypes about myself and my preferences. I just really like these shoes.
Ever get this way about a new pair of kicks that unexpectedly become a favorite?
